Psalm 7 (Solomon)

The 7th Psalm Solomos is a Psalm Solomos from the pseudepigraphic book of the " Psalms Solomos " of the Old Testament of the Bible . The psalmist asks for help in great need and from enemies.

Dating

There are two different approaches to dating the Psalm. Most place the psalm in the time when Pompey occupied the Jerusalem temple - for example Rudolf Kittel and Eduard Ephraem Geiger. Julius Wellhausen takes a different view : He takes the time of the attack by the Hasmonean Antigonus and the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman general Gaius Sosius and King Herod .

structure

The psalm can be divided into two large parts:

  1. Verses 1-4: Part 1: Israel's Peril
    1. Verse 1f .: Prayer that YHWH's presence does not step back and the pagan enemies do not take possession of Zion
    2. Verse 3f .: Israel will submit to the chastisement of YHWH
  2. Verses 5-10: Part 2: Israel's Security
    1. Verses 5-7: The presence of God is an assurance of grace and hope of defense
    2. Verse 8f: Assurance of eternal mercy under eternal discipline
    3. Verse 10: Affirmation of the hope of faith
