Psalterion

The Psalterion (Ψαλτήριον) is a liturgical book of various Eastern Churches for the Liturgy of the Hours . Its core is the biblical book of Psalms in the translation of the Septuagint .

Two main types are distinguished in the Greek area:

  • The Jerusalem Psalterion, divided into 4782 or 4784 verses, used in the Old Jerusalem liturgy .
  • The Constantinople Psalter, divided into 2542 verses, used in the Byzantine Rite .
