The psychiatric clinic in Toszek (Tost) has existed since the 19th century, before 1945 as the Tost Provincial Sanatorium and later as the Tost Provincial Hospital .

history

The site originally belonged to a barracks from the time of Frederick the Great. Then the Toster post office used the old barracks area. From 1883 to 1884 the new work and correction house or the provincial work house for the administrative district of Opole was built. In 1890 the nursing home was set up in this. In 1897, a medical center with apartments for the senior doctor and two assistant doctors was built south of the main building. 1900 another house for 25 female and 25 male patients. In 1908 the Antonienhof was acquired, in whose house 25 sick people and two nurses were accommodated. The institute also had its own farm with fields and livestock, as well as a garden center. In addition, there were workshops in the institution in which the patients could work. In 1924 the institution was taken over by the Province of Upper Silesia. In 1928 the nursing staff consisted of about 100 people and the institution cared for about 600 patients. Most of the patients came from the Upper Silesian industrial area, especially from Hindenburg OS

During the Second World War there was a Nazi internment camp on the clinic premises, in which British prisoners were incarcerated. From May 1945 to December 1945 the Soviet NKVD set up a camp in the institution. In the NKVD camps about 3,000 people were killed.
