Chamber of Psychotherapists
Chambers of psychotherapists are the self-administrations of psychological psychotherapists and child and adolescent psychotherapists in the federal states in Germany, organized as corporations under public law .
In Austria there is currently no Chamber of Psychotherapists, but psychotherapists organize themselves in professional associations at federal and state level, in which membership, in contrast to the Austrian Medical Chamber , for example , is voluntary.
Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists
The state chambers of psychotherapists have come together in a working group "Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists" (BPtK). According to its statutes , the purpose of the BPtK is the constant exchange of experiences among the chambers of psychotherapists, the mutual coordination of their goals and activities and the joint representation of their concerns vis-à-vis the public, politics, the institutions of the health care system, the federal authorities, the representatives of employers and employees at the federal level as well as towards the European institutions. In contrast to the state chambers of psychotherapists, the federal chamber of psychotherapists is not a corporation under public law, but an association with no legal capacity .
State Chamber of Psychotherapists
In Germany there are currently 12 regional chambers for psychotherapists. The federal states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are covered by a common chamber (OPK).

Tasks of the State Chamber of Psychotherapists
They are responsible for performing the tasks assigned to them on the basis of national health professions chamber laws. The responsible state ministry in each case exercises legal supervision (but not technical supervision ). The chambers deal with the professional interests of the chamber members. At least one chamber of psychotherapists is responsible for these functions in every German federal state. There is a compulsory membership for psychotherapists.
