Pudivere

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pudivere ( German Poidifer ) is a village in the Estonian municipality of Väike-Maarja in the Lääne-Viru district .

The village currently has 50 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2006).

In 1586 the Pudivere Manor was founded. The historicist main building made of wood was built in 1886/87 . Until the expropriation in 1919, it belonged to the aristocratic Baltic German family von Bremen as a subsidiary property of Avanduse . Today the property is privately owned again. The mansion was so badly damaged in a fire in 1999 that the roof collapsed. The valuable wooden decorations on the facade were destroyed.

The village of Pudivere is the birthplace of the Estonian writer Eduard Vilde (1865–1933). A memorial stone erected in 1965, about one kilometer from the village center, commemorates him. His birthplace was probably there in the 19th century.
