The Puente de los Alemanes ( Bridge of the Germans ), officially called Puente de Santo Domingo , is a pedestrian bridge over the Guadalmedina River in Málaga that connects the old town ( Centro historico ) with the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in the Perchel Norte district. Its official name is derived from this church. The 4.30 m wide steel truss bridge spans the canalised river with a span of approx. 38 m.

The name commonly used Puente de los Alemanes goes to the sinking of the corvette SMS Gneisenau , cadet training ship of the Imperial Navy , back, which was driven on 16 December 1900 by a storm from the harbor to the pier and sank. The people of Malaga saved many members of the occupation. In addition to Captain Kretschmann, 39 other crew members and 12 citizens of Malaga died in the accident. The graves of the crew are in the English cemetery in Malaga.

After a catastrophic flood of the Guadalmedina had destroyed almost all bridges on September 24, 1907, Kaiser Wilhelm II initiated the foundation of a new bridge as thanks for the help of the people of Malaga in the Gneisenau disaster. The new building was inaugurated on December 16, 1909. On the bridge hangs a plaque with the inscription Alemania donó a Málaga este puente agradecida al heroico auxilio que la ciudad prestó a los náufragos de la fragata de guerra "Gneisenau" MCM - MCMIX ( Germany donates this bridge to Málaga as thanks for the heroic help, which the city granted to the shipwrecked frigate Gneisenau. 1900-1909 ).

In 1984 the bridge was renovated by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany .
