The Guadalmedina (from the Arabic wál al-madína , وادي المدينة, wādi l-madina 'river of the city') is a river in southern Spain . It rises on the Pico de la Cruz, in the Camarolos mountain range at an altitude of 1433 meters above sea level. It has a length of 51.5 km to its mouth in the heart of the city of Malaga . On its route it flows through the Montes de Málaga Natural Park . It plays an important role in the history of the city and divides the city into two halves. The old town is on the left.

Reservoir and tributaries

It is a river that is subject to high seasonal changes and has five tributaries:

  • Arroyo de las Vacas
  • Arroyo Chaperas
  • Arroyo Humaina
  • Arroyo Hondo
  • Arroyo de los Frailes

All of these rivers are dry for most of the year. The Embalse de El Limonero reservoir supplies the Guadalmedina River and the residents of the area with water.
