Mario Casas Sierra (born June 12, 1986 in A Coruña , Province of A Coruña ) is a Spanish actor . He became known through the television series Los hombres de Paco and El barco as well as through the feature film Three meters above the sky and its sequel I stand on you .

Life

His family moved from A Coruña to Barcelona in 1994 . Mario Casas has three younger siblings. He actually wanted to be a police officer, firefighter or soccer player. Eventually he became an actor; for this he had enrolled at the Cristina Rota School of Dramatic Arts . In 2003 he moved to Madrid .

One of his first major roles was that of "Javi" Lorens in the telenovela SMS, sin miedo a soñar , in which he was seen from July 2006 to March 2007. He became known from 2007 through the television series Los hombres de Paco , in which he played the character Aitor Carrasco until 2010 .

He had his international breakthrough in 2010 with the lead role of Hugo Olivera Castro "HO" in the feature film Three Meters Above Heaven , which is based on the novel of the same name by Federico Moccia . In the 2012 sequel I stand up for you , he was seen again in the lead role. In 2015 he won a Feroz Award for his role in the comedy My Big Night .

In 2018 he took on the leading role in the Netflix co-production " Francisco Boix - the photographer of Mauthausen ". In the film by the Spanish director Mar Targarona he played the Spanish-Catalan photographer Francisco Boix (1920–1951), one of 7,000 Spaniards who were deported by the Nazis to the Mauthausen concentration camp during the Second World War . "There he was able to photograph the horror and smuggle negatives out of the camp as part of his work for the camp's identification service." For this role, Mario Casas claims to have lost around 12 kilos in order to make his interpretation realistic.

From 2010 to 2014, Mario Casas had a relationship with the actress María Valverde , whom he met while filming 'three meters above the sky'.
