Window bars, winter windows etc.

Monument text: The villa-like apartment building with enclosure, built around 1900 or shortly before, is a cultural monument for architectural and historical reasons. The two-storey, massive plastered building with preserved plaster structure (e.g. cornices and corner rustication of the central projectile) has a flat, overhanging saddle roof with ornamental rafters - these are features of the so-called Swiss style, which at the time was characteristic of many buildings, especially villas and train stations , the Ore Mountains and above all the Saxon Switzerland . The central projection of the house, which is also gabled in these forms, shows the builder's claim to stand out from the crowd with his object. Detailed memorial texts

  1. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars . Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system.

There is an upper, middle and lower seat here. The middle seat is on the 4th level of the garden at the southwest corner of the villa and is intercepted to the SE by a semicircular dry stone wall at the upper edge of which there is a cut hedge made of snowberries. In the west of the square, the slope is held up by stones. In the east of the seating area, below the aforementioned dry stone wall, a staircase made of 10 concrete steps, curved from north to south, leads to a path. This path is bounded on the right by a dry stone wall and swings to the west to the lower seat, which is bounded in the north by adjacent rock. To the east of the stairs mentioned, a short, narrow path swings down in the opposite direction. On the one hand, this splits into a short path leading to the SE to the south entrance of the utility room, like a staircase with 4 steps leading down to the east to the 3rd level of the garden. The slope below the path is also slightly profiled. From the lower, largest, already mentioned square, a small staircase with 4 concrete steps leads further down and in an arch to the south to a path on the southern border. This path is guided in its middle course by two hornbeams in two arches that swing slightly against each other. On the left side, upright, carved stones are set against the slope alongside the path. Further to the east, the path splits into a lower terrace and an upper path.

The upper path leads to a second, upper terrace parallel to the lower terrace and is intercepted by a dry stone wall with a railing. The upper terrace ends in the east with an area that bends at right angles to the north and is held in place by a retaining wall in the east. A staircase leading to the north with 4 steps, a platform and then a staircase with 7 steps leading to the east lead down to the triangular garden area mentioned on the first level of the garden. Another staircase leads north from this upper terrace to the modified garden area in the south of the villa.

    • History: The Tharandt lime works was in operation until 1917, probably since the 9th century. Lime and marble mining on site, initially in opencast mining, from around 1790 in underground operation via an artificial and driving shaft up to the 5th level at a depth of 56 m a blind shaft up to the 7th level at a depth of approx. 70 m (now in custody, four more day shafts on the site possibly filled or broken), as well as above-ground porphyry mining (behind the former machine house), which was burned in shaft and ring kilns Lime was mainly used as building lime in the area, also for the manufacture of chemical products and as fertilizer lime, further delivery of raw lime as an aggregate to the Freital steelworks as well as black-blue, red, yellow, green or white marble grains or similar marble powder for the production of terrazzo, Germany and Europe-wide shipping of goods by rail network, 1910 still employed 32 workers, dismantling stopped in 1917, the last operators were the Zschill brothers e (the Keil'sche Kalkwerk, neighboring to the north, mined the same limestone deposits on the Fördergersdorfer Flur, but was abandoned earlier), the reasons for the closure were the labor shortage after the First World War and a large fracture on the 6th level that continued for days continued and would have made larger investments necessary to deal with the dismantling, followed by planking and backfilling of the shafts, predominant demolition of the company buildings, in the 1970s security and safekeeping work by the Dresden mining security.
    • Monuments of lime mining and lime processing: The substructure of a lime kiln made of rubble, originally a conventional shaft kiln, was put out of operation in 1901 after a more effective ring kiln was rebuilt, as this fell short of the expected yield, followed in 1902 by the conversion of the old shaft kiln into a "gas furnace" (i.e. a lime shaft kiln with gas firing by means of two gas generators), builder Paul Zschille (lime works owner), construction work Heinrich Warlich (engineer from Dresden), during the renovation the substructure of the old shaft furnace was almost completely preserved, but was in the rear part around a stoking room as access to the stair gratings of the gas generators, supplemented by the associated inlet openings for the lignite / hard coal mixture (Bohemian lignite, hard coal from Freital) as well as by a gas duct running in a ring around the combustion shaft; the latter was connected to the almost 7 m high combustion shaft via six openings was rebuilt and the Kalk-Hunte could be fed from the topping platform via a wooden conveyor frame with an elevator winch; a 5 m high chimney (later increased again to about twice as much) connected to the top of the topping platform, the gas generated in the gas generators mixed in the combustion chamber with "secondary air" that had risen from the exhaust openings and heated by the already burnt lime, the gas-oxygen mixture then burned without leaving any combustion residues, the burning lime could be drawn off through the exhaust openings under the firing shaft. Daily route to the Paul Schacht (former machine shaft), straight-line driveway, vaulted with dry stone masonry, already recorded on a situation map from 1848, in the 1970s the shaft mouth was closed by mountain protection.
    • No monuments: art and driving shaft with winding tower, machine and boiler house, next to it forge building, shaft kept by the mountain security in 1975, original shaft ring visible (statement by Mr. Göpfert), former machine house converted into a residential building after the end of mining use, together with forge partly also used for paper production (by sheet manufacturer Reinhold Huhle), structurally changed, now vacant.

  15. Jagdschloss Grillenburg - former hunting seat.
    • Probably originally from the beginning of the 13th century under Margrave Dietrich von Meißen a hunting seat in the Tharandt forest. The complex is surrounded by four ponds and an approx. 450 m long quarry stone wall, with the Colmnitzer Tor made of Grillenburg sandstone in the south-west (alterations and extensions in the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries). The rising terrain forms a hilltop at the highest point, the remains of a late Romanesque building sunk into this hill.
    • In 1554, Elector August of Saxony built a princely house in the north of the area with a locksmith's shop, stables, farm buildings and accommodation for the servants. He gave up the castle in Tharandt (Weißeritzkreis) built in 1473 and had the usable building material transported to Grillenburg, where the official seat was from 1568 (moved back to Tharandt in 1827). After the elector's death (1599), a hunter's house was built on the hill above the former late Romanesque building. Of the buildings, only the former workshop with part of the long stable has been preserved. In 1935 the locksmith's shop was expanded to become the Saxon Jägerhof by the National Socialists. In 1938/39 the so-called New Hunter's House was built as a hunter's and guest house on the hill.
    • Remains of the late Romanesque complex. Under the new hunter's house a square room (approx. 13.5 m2) built of quarry stone, above the shield arches a four-bay groined vault supported by a low pillar in the middle. Excavations (1936) showed that this room in the layout of a Greek cross was connected to further almost square rooms, from which low corridors emanated, each leading into a small chamber, probably remnants of a hypocaust system.
    • New hunter's house. Built in 1938/39 according to plans by Wilhelm Jost (exterior) and Oswin Hempel (interior). Restorations in 1969. Massive monumental building in neo-renaissance style. Above the square two-storey main building there is an exceptionally high, steep hipped roof with two lofts. An elaborately designed relief around the arched portal with hunting motifs. The elongated wing adjoining the rear is single-storey with a gable roof and a loft. The interior work was carried out by the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau, the inventory was made from various local, sometimes precious woods.
    • A bowling alley is attached to the hunter's house along the surrounding wall. Bronze sculptures from 1938 (Hubertushirsch, Bär, Keiler) placed on the house. The Jägerhaus also includes the two smaller residential buildings at the foot of the hill, which can be assigned to the main building like two pavilions. They are two-story with a steep hipped roof. The western one is built on the foundations of the former castle, the sandstone cellar with arched doors (stonemason's mark) from 1554/58.
    • Former Locksmithing. Built by Hans Irmisch and Hans von Dehn-Rothfelser 1554–58. After the fire of 1654, it was rebuilt by Ezechiel Eckhardt in 1655, alterations in 1855 under the direction of Oberlandbaukondukteur Rothe and in 1935/36. Restorations in 1969. The renaissance building from the 16th century was preserved as the remainder of the former hunting lodge. During the renovation in 1855, the building was given a castle-like character. Two-storey building, with a three-storey risalit shifted from the central axis, weak at the front, clearly protruding at the back, a clock tower on the steep gable roof above the risalit, the gable roof with roof houses and bat dormers. The former long stable connects to this building at a right angle.
    • The wooden bridge leading to the former palace complex in the north of the area was replaced in 1730 by a sandstone arch bridge, presumably based on plans by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann (1662–1736). At the end of the bridge two pillars, originally each with a life-size hunter figure with a sandstone hunting dog by Abraham Conrad Buchau , 1st half of the 17th century (today in the Museum of Folk Art, Dresden) (Dehio Sachsen I, 1996). Interior of the New Jägerhaus by the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau, air raid shelters under the house.
  16. Grillenburg forestry training center. Monument text:
    • Dormitory, training building and workshop building of the former Forestry Training Center in Grillenburg, built as an ensemble in 1952/53 according to plans by the architect Gebauer, who was also responsible for public buildings in Graupa and Gohrisch (guest house of the Council of Ministers).
    • The dormitory is an elongated two-storey plastered building with a gable roof, pulled down to the entrance side as a towed roof (with dormer window). Entrance zone as an asymmetrical opening in the facade behind the portico, consisting of four wooden columns carved with figures and the name of the architect, above dormer window, old German slate covering, windows mostly on the ground floor with filigree grilles from different times, in the area of French windows also on both floors. The wall and openings appear in pleasant proportions, the openings (some French windows) are still predominantly accentuated by filigree grids, not all of them due to the construction period. The wooden entrance door now in its original division, inside mostly still the original wooden doors as well as filigree stair railings typical of the time, the former canteen or cultural hall with partly original stage with wooden frame, in this room the three piloti without their original decoration (celebration iconography, theater masks etc., see photos from the 1950s), the latter possibly still preserved under cover.
    • The training building is a single-storey plastered building in the same style, e.g. B. also with an entrance under a sloping roof and old German slate roofing, the workshop building with garages adjoining at right angles, here the pilaster strips of the single-storey plastered building with loft extension. The complex is a testimony to the public building activity of the early GDR and, due to its originality, is already a rarity; it illustrates, with a high level of documentation value, the contemporary, conservative use of forms of the Heimat style in the sense of the “national cultural heritage”, combined with typical forms of international post-war modernism, especially in the Inside.
  17. Opitzhöhe triangulation station.
Monument text: The Opitzhöhe point was built in May 1869 at the intersection of Weissig-Tharandter (high) and Opitz-Hainsberger Straße. The property owner, Gutsbesitzer KG Klotzsche in Weissig , acquired an area of 37 m² around the column by means of a purchase agreement dated May 22, 1869. The purchase price was a total of 24 marks. The pillar is part of the series manufactured by Steinmetzmeister Böhme in Bobritzsch . Due to its location at the crossroads, the pillar was knocked over, but was immediately put up again in April 2010. The station is at a field road crossing, as described in the nail. A water tank was built to the west, along with a modern wind generator. The point is clearly marked by a single large linden tree.
The column is apparently crooked. The granite is very light, it may have been worked up. The writing is only very faintly legible, it has been partially traced with a grease pencil or something similar. The writing points to the southwest. The column no longer has a cover, there are five recesses in the top of the column, three of which are still recognizable as the center and eccentric fixtures. Apparently there was no height bolt attached to the column. The view to the south and east is still unobstructed.
In the period from 1862 to 1890, a land survey was carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony , in which two triangular networks were formed. On the one hand, there is the network for grade measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony (network I. class / order) with 36 points and the royal Saxon triangulation (network II. Class / order) with 122 points. This national survey was led by Prof. Christian August Nagel , according to which the triangulation columns are also referred to as "Nagelsche columns". This surveying system was one of the most modern layer networks in Germany. The surveying columns set for this purpose remained almost entirely in their original locations. They are an impressive testimony to the history of land surveying in Germany and in Saxony. The system of surveying columns of both orders is in its entirety a cultural monument of supraregional importance.
