  11. Lungkwitz Castle and Stiftsgut
For the history of the individual buildings, see documentary work by Sabine Knöfel, 1999, pp. 4–7:
“First planning documents ... probably only from Bennemann's time. ... around 1760: ... The square surrounded by the manor house is a decorative courtyard or garden. Separately from this is the farm or economy courtyard, a spacious place with an entrance gate and walls on which the necessary sheds, stables and farm buildings are built. Behind the farm building to the east of the castle is a brewery and a bakery and milk house. - This situation has hardly changed until 1945. Over time, the buildings were replaced by a new building due to dilapidation or modernization. Structural extensions to the manor complex in the 1830s. New farm buildings and stables are built around 1930. The actual monastery building was built in 1842, and the situation in the courtyard was hardly changed. Only to the east of the monastery building was the original location of the farm buildings outside the courtyard changed by the construction of the wheelwright and distillery building. After 1945, parts of the southern farm buildings were demolished as part of the land reform, and there were changes in use. No extensive reconstructions or renovations until 1989. Coming from Dippoldiswalder Straße, cross the courtyard flanked by columns and find the oldest surviving buildings on both sides of the courtyard entrance. To the right of the main entrance is the two-storey former stable building, also known as the tower building. It was built around 1550, with a crooked hipped roof, bat dormers, elongated building with 12 window axes. On the courtyard side there is a polygonal stair tower with a clock and bell, a Welscher hood and lantern with a pyramid point and a weather vane in the middle. Quarry stone masonry is partially visible on the facade, the windows on the upper floor are framed in sandstone. From 1699 to 1729 (under Below) probably renovations and alterations to the tower building. He is the donor of the bell, which bears the following inscription: “In 1704 Michael Weinhold poured me in Dresden. This bell was made in May 1704 / Adolpff Friedrich v. Belav / hang up. At that time owner / this estate and royal. Pole. and Churf. / Saechs. AmbtsHauptmann zu Pirna ”. It was spared from melting down during World War II and returned to Lungkwitz in 1952 ... The tower clock was given to the Mathematical-Physical Salon in Dresden as a permanent loan a few years ago for reasons of monument preservation and safety. ... Until 1945 there was a scale for horse-drawn carriages and carriages on the north wall of the building. ... Since 1993 safety measures due to severe damage in the roof area. .... tower building is currently being renovated. The castle on the right hand side of the courtyard entrance was probably built or rebuilt between 1615 and 1619 on an irregular floor plan. The origin of the asymmetrical location of the castle can be owed to the adaptation to the waters that existed at the time. The building consists of two wings slightly shifted from a right angle. The broader, three-storey north wing with pointed gables on the narrow sides and a dwelling at the southeast corner is joined by the two-storey west wing extending to the south. On the courtyard side, the building is accessed through an octagonal stair tower with a conical roof dome inserted into the inner corner. On the north side of the building there was an extension (winter garden, demolished in 1994 due to dilapidation). - The facade is divided horizontally by a profiled cornice, windows with sandstone walls. ... On the courtyard side of the palace building is a stone tablet, inscription: "In / grateful memory / of the hundred years ago / establishment and confirmation / of the Bennemann Foundation / on May 23, 1872". ... Castle with a distinctive roof landscape - steep pitched roofs, seven gables, mostly double gables - these gables are each crowned by groups of three of delicate obelisks. Both in itself and with its ancillary buildings, the castle building forms a spacious, rectangular manor. Construction shaped in the forms of the late Renaissance. Its original appearance has largely been preserved to this day. - Opposite the castle building, to the east of it, in 1842, instead of a dilapidated 'widow's house' or 'stone house', the actual 'Bennemannsche Witwenstift', the monastery building, was built under the administration of the government councilor Kreishauptmann v. Zschechwitz built. The previous building was an 'economic building ... with a few rooms downstairs'. The monastery building is a simple two-story residential building with a jagged floor and hipped roof. Dormers are built on the long sides, two-axis gable structures accentuate the longitudinal axis of the building in the roof area. Small obelisks serve as gable ornaments, which create a reference to the castle. Small-format coupled arched windows are arranged on the west facade on both sides of a portal. The windows on the upper floor are also usually grouped in pairs. On the west side, above the niche portal with a profiled arch, an inscription 'Witwen Stift von CE Benemannin / MDCCLX' indicates the purpose of the building and the foundation of the foundation. Another seat niche portal on the south facade is labeled 'Soli Deo Gloria / MDCCCXLII', which refers to the year of construction. Inside the building, the original small-cell structure of the individual living areas is still well preserved. Each of the widows had a 'friendly living room with bedroom ... and everyone shared a kitchen, a dining vault with 6 cupboards, washing and bathing facilities.' The monastery building has various Renaissance details. These elements are an adaptation to the buildings in the area. This building is a striking and early testimony to historicizing tendencies in 19th century architecture. - Towards the south, farm and stable buildings in the former horseshoe shape are connected. The building south of the widow's monastery is the 'tenant's apartment' or administrator's house: a two-storey building in a simple design, with saddle roofs, dormers and sandstone walls on windows and doors. A year MDCCCXXXII (1832) probably indicates the construction time. The building served as the apartment of the respective tenant. It also contained an administrator's apartment. Today it is a residential building, in 1950 an attic floor was expanded. - Adjacent to this is a former stable and farm building with the initials JE vT (Trützschler, Administrator) 1882 (building in 1967/1970 expanded into a residential building). - The buildings have pinnacle-like gable decorations that vary the corresponding motifs on the castle and widow's monastery. ... To the east of the monastery building is a former cartwright shop, now a residential building (around 1830). The brewery had been located between the monastery building and the wheelwright since around 1760, ... date of demolition unknown (after 1935). Diagonally opposite, to the east of the tenant house, was the distillery, probably built around 1830, but probably a conversion of the baking and milk house (from 1760). ... building demolished after 1945. ... The kitchen garden is to the northwest of the estate, and the orangery building with a red tiled roof as a counterpart to the estate is located at its northwest boundary. It was already there in the Bennemannian phase, rebuilt several times over the years, changes of use. ... After the reunification with the associated garden area, sold to the Sachsenland company and reconstructed - today a residential building. "
