Front spike

Front spit or frontispiece (of French frontispice is "front side") in buildings, the name for a in the area of the roof at right angles to the facade upstanding gable wall . It usually has windows to illuminate the roof space behind. It was originally in Reet created roofed houses over the front door in order in case of fire to keep the escape route (Northern Germany). In Wilhelminian style buildings , it was used more for design reasons for architectural structuring and crowning in the sloping roof area, or to be able to pull loads up into the roof using a crane arm (Netherlands).
