Johann Friedrich Judeich (born January 27, 1828 in Dresden , † March 28, 1894 in Tharandt ) was a German forest scientist .

Life

Johann Friedrich Judeich studied forest science at the Forestry Academy in Tharandt and economics in Leipzig from 1846 to 1848 . In 1849 he was a laborer at the Royal Saxon Forest Management Institute , joined in 1857 as a manager of a large Waldbesitzung in the Czech Giant Mountains in the service of Count of Moczin was in 1862 by the Bohemian Forest School Association at the head of the newly established school of forestry in white water (Bohemia) called from there but In 1866 he was appointed director of the Tharandt Forest Academy and appointed to the Secret Forestry Council in 1876 and to the Secret Forestry Council in 1878. Judeich was a long-time member of the Railway Council of the Royal Directorate General of the Saxon State Railways. In 1892 he became a member of the Leopoldina .

Among his writings should be emphasized: The forest management (Dresden 1871, 4th edition 1885). In the official report on the Vienna World Exhibition , he reported on forestry (Braunschweig 1874). From 1868 he was in charge of editing the Tharandt Forestry Yearbook (Dresden) and from 1873 to 1882 he published the German Forestry and Hunting Calendar (Berlin). With Hinrich Nitsche he arranged for a reworking of Ratzeburg's "Waldverderbern" (8th edition, Berlin, Parey 1885). Judeich's successor as Academy Director, Max Neumeister , published the writings of his former teacher in several further editions after his death.

In Tharandt, a monument with a bronze bust by Johannes Schilling was erected on Neumeisterweg ( Somsdorf district ) in 1899 and restored in 2011 and moved to the Forest Botanical Garden . In 1940 the tombstones of the family grave of Judeich were moved from the Tharandt cemetery to the Tharandt forest , opposite Cotta's grave , to the place of the former Wettinplatz . In addition, the laboratory and lecture hall building for the forest sciences department , built in 1998 on the former sports field, was given the name Friedrich-Judeich-Bau . In the Radeberg suburb of Dresden , a street is also named after Judeich.
