Pujilí

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pujilí is a small town in the province of Cotopaxi in Ecuador not far from Latacunga with 6815 inhabitants (as of 2001). It is the municipal seat of the Pujilí Canton . The inhabitants of Pujilí are mostly indigenous Ecuadorians. Tourism is very weak here. The city is well known for its weekly markets on Sundays and Wednesdays. Clothing sales in particular have become a profitable business. Pujilí is also known for its pottery and ceramics. Due to the low level of tourism, in contrast to Otavalo , for example , the market retained its indigenous form. However, this has recently led to an increase in visitors who are looking for this authenticity. In addition, Pujilí is home to several churches, handicraft shops and a yellow-blue staircase from which one can overlook the entire city.
