The Pulletop bushfire occurred on February 6, 2006, approximately 30 km southeast of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales , Australia .

Course of the bush fire

The Pulletop bush fire was created in hot and dry weather conditions by a tractor on the Pulletop site. That bush fire got out of hand.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service declared the bushfire an emergency. When 10 km² of farmland burned, they closed the Hume Highway in the afternoon as there was a risk that the fire could spread to the small rural towns of Humula , Book Book , Livingstone and Kyeamba . On February 7, 2006, weather conditions improved and firefighters gained control of the fire in the inaccessible area.

Damage

Over 90 km² of farmland, 2500 sheep, 6 cattle, 3 vehicles, two barns and 50 km of fence were burned. The damage amounted to AUD 5 million. 19 houses and a telephone station could be protected from the fire.
