Pulsed Accretion

Pulsed accretion (Engl .; dt. Pulsed accretion ) describes in astronomy a modulation of the accretion young stellar objects in binary systems . Periodic changes in brightness in the infrared - light curves of T Tauri stars are always explained by pulsed accretion when the modulation of the light curve identical to the orbital period is of the binary system and not by covering effects as with the UX Orionis stars can be explained.

In double stars of young stellar objects, a protoplanetary disk forms around each star , from which matter is accreted onto the stars. If the binary star system has an elliptical orbit , stronger gravitational forces act on the protoplanetary disks in the periastron , which leads to a temporary increase in the accretion rate on the star. This in turn leads to the observed increases in brightness in the mid-infrared, e.g. B. with protostar LRLL 54361 up to ten times.
