The pupil eV - Cinema in the university has received the student's university theaters in student house on the campus Bockenheim the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . The establishment is to be understood against the background of the nationwide founding of student film clubs in the 1950s.

history

Founded by students on December 17, 1951 on the Bockenheim campus, the volunteer group called “Filmstudio” showed specially shot semester shows (so-called pupils) on 16 mm film . When the student house opened in June 1953, a self-managed gaming facility was available. Game operations were resumed in 1973 under the name “Pupille” and moved to the ballroom.

In 1980 and 1992 the association was awarded the city's cinema prize by the city of Frankfurt am Main.

program

On average, around 30 films are shown each semester. The program consists of mostly full-length films, short film programs and supporting films, thematic series and work reviews.

Between 2012 and 2019, the Pupille was awarded the Cinema Culture Prize for non-commercial cinemas and initiatives by the State of Hesse every year. In 2013, the Kinematheksverbund awarded the Pupille a cinema prize in the “Concepts for program design” category.

The student house and the pupil were and are venues for initiatives and festivals, etc. a. Kinothek Asta Nielsen , Nippon Connection , exground filmfest, Lichter Filmfest , Filmkollektiv Frankfurt, Spectrale.

Technical Equipment

Two 35 mm Bauer 11 projectors , a 16 mm projector from Bell & Howell and a 4K digital projector based on the DCI standard from Sony .
