Federal Association of Municipal Film Work
The Federal Association of Communal Film Work (BkF) is the umbrella organization for communal and non-commercial cinemas in Germany.

The BkF was founded in 1975 as a registered association based in Frankfurt am Main . More than 120 municipal , student and independent non-commercial cinemas are organized in the federal association, as well as some film festivals, mobile cinemas and other film-cultural institutions. Any non-commercial cinema that “advocates cultural film work, the preservation of film heritage and the preservation of local cinema culture ” can become a member. There are regional associations in Baden-Württemberg and Hesse, and the university cinemas working group in the BkF is also affiliated .
The office of the BkF is located in Frankfurt am Main. The managing director is Fabian Schauren, the media policy spokeswoman is Borjana Gaković and the first chairman is Andreas Heidenreich from the municipal cinema in Weiterstadt.
The board of trustees includes Robert Bramkamp , Ulrich Gregor , Angela Haardt, Hilmar Hoffmann († 2018), Dieter Krauß, Florian Opitz , Andres Veiel , Michael Verhoeven and Wim Wenders .
Since 1990, the BkF has been publishing a quarterly magazine with kinema kommunal , has a small film distributor and compiles thematic film series. Together with the AG Kurzfilm, it organizes the cinema tour of the winners of the German Short Film Award and has organized an annual federal congress since 2005.
Film awards
The BkF participates in the organization and jury work of the cinema award of the Kinematheksverbund and awards two of its own film awards .
With the Caligari Film Prize , BkF and Filmdienst have been honoring a stylistically and thematically innovative contribution from the International Forum of Young Cinema since 1986 .
Since 1997, the Liliput Prize has been awarded for outstanding film dubbing and outstanding subtitling . Since 2008 it has been awarded annually at the Frankfurt Book Fair by the BkF in cooperation with the Association of German Film Critics in the Film & TV Forum. The patron is the voice actor Christian Brückner .
