Kulturserver.de

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kulturserver.de is a free and advertising-free web portal for art and culture in Germany , in which cultural workers and institutions can publish information about themselves, their work and events. The portal serves artists and cultural workers.

It arose from the idea of providing cultural workers with free online tools for self-presentation on the Internet and thus receiving current cultural information from them in return. From this one of the largest nationwide online platforms for actors and activities in the cultural sector has developed.

In addition to individuals and cultural institutions, regional, sector-oriented and state culture servers that use the same databases , the so-called CultureBase, participate in the project . They form a culture server network, which focuses on the exchange of information between the members.

Content

The content of kulturserver.de is essentially fed from three databases: an event , a person and an address database.

The event database contains around 9,000 cultural events nationwide per month , sorted by federal state , city , sector and period. Each appointment is linked to the database entry of the event location, it can contain ticket links or links to person entries as well as further links.

The address database contains over 25,000 entries from cultural institutions, projects and event locations, which can also be researched by federal state, city and sector and alphabetically. Each address is linked to a city map, the train schedule and a route planner. The respective appointment entries are assigned to the event locations.

So far, around 27,000 cultural workers have registered in the personal database of the culture server network, who have created web business cards with partially detailed information on their vitae, pictures and video clips.

functionality

The databases are based on the concept of decentralized input, administration and querying of data. After a one-time personal registration, each member can create a web business card and enter and edit event dates and addresses online. In addition, a domain including web space, a website construction kit and an e-mail address are available to them when they register. In addition, members can use a number of other online tools that enable the dissemination of the data from CultureBase and which can be used free of charge in the basic version. This includes a newsletter system, a tool for printing event flyers or a tool for creating a calendar module for your own website.

As independent partners in the network, the members are responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of their data. Individuals are looked after by superordinate online editorial offices - city, regional, association or institution-internal.

Data that are posted for a project or portal are available to all interested members of the culture server network. In doing so, they can automatically take over all the data from a department or make an editorial selection from the offer, which they then publish on their own. Once entered, data appear on several websites at the same time. If, for example, a theater in North Rhine-Westphalia enters a performance in the event database, the entry is not only displayed on the theater's website, but also in the marketing portal of the North Rhine-Westphalian theaters, in the NRW culture server and in the German culture portal.

network

Members of the culture server network include the Documentary Film Working Group , the Federal Association of Visual Artists , the Federal Association of Directors and the Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia theaters . In addition, there is a state culture server in each federal state, various regional culture servers as well as cities and municipalities that use the databases.

operator

Kulturserver.de is operated by the non-profit organization "Stiftung kulturserver.de gGmbH" with offices in Aachen and Berlin. It was founded in 2000 by the Ponton European Media Art Lab and members of the Förderverein Kunst und Internet eV, initiator of the Aachen culture server heimat.de and developer of the culture database CultureBase.
