Remnant of Purchas Hill with Mount Wellington in the background.

The Purchas Hill ( Māori : Te Tauoma ) is one of the volcanoes of the Auckland Volcanic Field and is located north of Mount Wellington . The cinder cone with double crater was about 50 m high before it fell victim to the quarry, apart from a few remains.

The cinder cone was in the middle of a large tuff ring . It erupted 10,000 years ago just outside its larger neighbor, Mt Wellington. Hochstetter named him after the Reverend Arthur Guyon Purchas (1821-1906) out of gratitude for his help with his geological work.
