Purnuškės

The center of Europe in Lithuania north of Vilnius

The village of Purnuškės in Nemenčinė County in the Vilnius Rajong Municipality is located north of the city of Vilnius . There is a Europapark ( Europos parkas ) in Purnuškės . According to a calculation by French scientists from 1989 , this is the center of Europe ( Lithuanian Europos centras ). Geographers at the Institut Géographique National , the national surveying authority of France, calculated for the geographic center of Europe , i.e. the centroid of all land area counted as part of Europe, the coordinates 54 ° 54 ′ 0 ″  N , 25 ° 19 ′ 0 ″  E, coordinates: 54 ° 54 '0'  N , 25 ° 19 '0'  O .

Strictly speaking, the center is in the forest approx. 762 m south-southwest of the Europapark and 180 km below the surface of the earth. However, the calculation method allows this tolerance.
