Suspected gene

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A suspected gene (synonym putative gene ) is a DNA sequence which , based on an identified open reading frame, is suspected to be a gene whose encoded protein and its function are not assigned. Various programs for identifying suspected genes have been developed. A suspected protein relates in an analogous manner to a lack of association between the amino acid sequence and the function of the protein.
