The Bavarian Pw3ü Bay 01 / Pw3i Bay 01/21 / Pw3i Bay 01 / 21a are three-axle baggage vehicles for use in passenger trains according to Sheet 227 for the Royal Bavarian State Railways .
procurement
Adequate luggage trolleys were required for use in high-speed trains (express and express trains). Between 1901 and 1904, KBayStsB procured a further 10 three-axle wagons in two lots, which corresponded to the predecessor type according to sheet 226. They were equipped for cross-border use to Austria and / or Switzerland. The initially existing bellows for the transitions were removed by 1935 at the latest and the cars were given different class names.
Whereabouts
A total of two cars had to be handed in as reparations in 1919. A total of three cars came to the DB and were taken out of service there by 1962.
Constructive features
Underframe
The frame of the car was made entirely of profile iron and riveted. The outer side members were U-shaped with outward flanges. The cross members were also made of U-profiles and not cranked. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings according to VDEV . The drawbar was spring-loaded throughout and in the middle. The wagons originally had double-slotted basket buffers with an installation length of 650 mm and 360 mm for the buffer plates. This was later replaced by case buffers.
drive
The cars had axle brackets of the short, straight design riveted from sheet metal and angles. The middle axle had lateral play and was partly also braked. The axles were stored in sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies. In addition to the Westinghouse air pressure brake, some of the wagons also had suction air brakes from the Hardy system for international use . In addition, there was a hand spindle brake that could also be operated from the pulpit of the service room.
Car body
The frame of the car body consisted of a wooden frame structure, which was stiffened by steel drawstrings. The walls were covered with sheet metal on the outside and wood on the inside. The side and front walls were straight, the entrance doors indented. The car body was divided into a service compartment, a closed customs compartment with a side aisle and a large luggage room with a dog box. The flat barrel roof was provided with an attached pulpit above the service room, which the platoon leader used as an observation pulpit. The roofs were left open over the entrance doors. The car transitions on the front sides were secured by bellows. For quick loading and unloading there was a 1,500 mm wide sliding door that stood on rollers and was guided with head bars.
Furnishing
In addition to a service compartment with a driver's cab and toilet, there was a large cargo area with an integrated, lockable customs compartment. These were partially removed during the renovation campaign in 1921. There was also a dog box with all cars.
The cars were illuminated with gas lights. The supply containers were placed lengthways under the car body. In the 1930s there was a conversion to electrical lighting. The heating was done with steam. There were static fans on the roof for ventilation.
