The Bavarian Pwi Bay 10 are two-axle baggage vehicles for use in light mainline passenger trains according to Sheet 224 for the Royal Bavarian State Railways . It is the successor type of the wagons delivered from 1907 according to sheet 223.

procurement

Between 1907 and 1923 the KBayStsB procured a total of 146 two-axle cars in four types for use in light mainline trains . As the second type, a total of 80 cars in three delivery series according to sketch 224 were delivered in the years 1910 to 1913. They were all set up at the front with revolving doors and open passages. Bellows were not used and no raised roof structures were used.

Ten cars from the 1913 delivery series were intended for traffic on the Salzburg - Freilassing - Berchtesgaden route . Since electrical operation predominated on this route, they were given special equipment.

Whereabouts

A total of seven cars had to be handed in as reparations in 1919. The remaining cars were taken over by the DRG. Forty-seven (47) of these wagons were taken over by the Federal Railroad and retired there by 1962.

Constructive features

Underframe

The frame of the car was made entirely of profile iron and riveted. The outer side members were U-shaped with outward flanges. The cross members were also made of U-profiles and not cranked. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings according to VDEV . The drawbar was spring-loaded throughout and in the middle. The wagons originally had double-slotted basket buffers with an installation length of 650 mm and 360 mm for the buffer plates. This was later replaced by case buffers.

drive

The cars had axle brackets of the short, straight design riveted from sheet metal and angles. The axles were stored in sliding axle bearings. The shape 39 wheels had spoked wheel bodies. The cars were all equipped with a Westinghouse type air pressure brake. In addition, there was a hand spindle brake that could be operated from the duty room.

Car body

The frame of the car body consisted of a wooden frame structure, which was stiffened by steel drawstrings. The walls were covered with sheet metal on the outside and wood on the inside. The side and front walls were straight, the entrance doors indented. The car body was divided into a service compartment and a large luggage compartment as well as a small cattle compartment. The wagons had a flat barrel roof. The car crossings on the front sides were not secured and only for the service personnel. For quick loading and unloading of luggage, there was a 1500 mm wide sliding door on both sides, which stood on rollers and was guided with head bars.

Furnishing

There was a large hold next to a service compartment. There was also a small cattle section.

The cars were illuminated with gas lights. The supply containers were placed lengthways under the car body. In the 1930s there was a conversion to electrical lighting. The heating was done with steam. There were static fans on the roof for ventilation.
