A Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII; in English: Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor ) is an investor with a special license that entitles him to buy or sell shares in China .

The People's Republic of China began issuing the QFII licenses in 2002. It represents a very important milestone in the opening up of the Chinese financial market. This program allowed license holders to invest directly in the Chinese stock market in limited contingents for the first time.
