Quality information system

A quality information system ( QIS for short ) is a system for collecting quality-relevant information in a process or a material or database . The information collected in this way is used in a processed form for the analysis of the examined facts and thus to improve the observed quality.

Components

The parts of a QIS are:

1. Collecting the data

By setting suitable measuring points , the quality can be measured in the examined object (process or inventory). This measurement can be done by:

  • Complete survey :
    All objects in a portfolio are examined for the presence of the required characteristics.
  • Sampling :
    The quality of the selection is determined from a stock by means of a sample.
  • Continuous survey :
    At a defined point, all objects passing through there are examined for the presence of the required features.

2. Processing the data

By merging the information from the various measurement points, an overall picture of the quality of the examination object can be created.

3. Presentation of the data

Can be expressed the quality of either a percentage point - grid or in another pre-defined scale . Ideally, the result is published in such a way that the people who have to take the appropriate measures can see them at a glance.

Goals of a QIS

A properly set up QIS allows the company to optimize the total costs of a product while taking into account all parameters such as the various costs but also the risks such as the reputational risk . The latter is particularly important for products that are closely linked to the name of the manufacturer, such as automobile manufacturers.
