Fernando Quejas

Fernando Quejas [ fɨɾˈnɐ̃du ˈkeʒɐʃ ] (born  April 23, 1922 in Cape Verde , †  October 28, 2005 in Lisbon , Portugal ) was a singer and songwriter from the Cape Verde Islands .

Quejas moved to Portugal from his home on the west coast of Africa in 1947 . In the 1950s he released 22 albums with the Portuguese label Alvorado . In the 1960s and 1970s he made numerous appearances around the world. He was one of the most renowned singers of the melancholy Mornas , a blues style of Cape Verde.

Quejas was one of the founders of the first radio station Radio Clube de Cabo Verde (Radio Praia) on the Cape Verde Islands in 1945 .
