Spring water

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spring water or well water comes from natural underground and pollution-free reservoirs and is bottled directly at the source (originally synonymous with "well"). If the water is under pressure so that it can flow without conveying technology, such as B. by pumping, rises to the surface, it is spoken of an artesian spring .

Spring water is fed by surface water that passes through various layers of rock on its way down and is therefore subject to a natural filtration process. At the same time - in contrast to rainwater - mineral salts and trace elements dissolve from the rock and give the spring water its taste and certain physiological effects.

Spring water must be "naturally pure" and must not be treated chemically or using filter technology. It meets all the requirements for drinking water . Approved processes are only the separation of iron, manganese, sulfur compounds as well as arsenic or ozonation, as long as the original character of the water is not changed.

The legal requirements for the extraction, filling and marketing of spring water are regulated in Germany by the Mineral and Table Water Ordinance. Unlike mineral water, spring water does not require official approval.
