Shear force

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Internal forces on a beam with line load q. Normal force N, transverse force V, bending moment M. The transverse force is greatest at the edges and has a linear course.

The transverse force is in the theory of the beam the designation of a force on the one hand

  • acts on the beam as a load directed perpendicular to its longitudinal axis ,
  • and the other hand is situated in a cross-sectional area of the beam and there the stress on shear represents

In the bar it runs perpendicular to the normal force directed at right angles to the cross-sectional area .
