Quimbando

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quimbando is a music trio from the city of Cochabamba in Bolivia .

The members of the group are Marcelo Arias, Mauricio Canedo and Arpad Debreczeni. In their songs they convey socially critical texts that deal primarily with everyday Bolivian reality. Three albums have been released so far, including the current "Apaguen la luz".

The word "Quimba" describes the central part of a cueca , the national dance of Bolivia. In this central part the composer achieves his maximum artistic and intellectual expression. “Quimbando” means “pensive” in the appropriate sense.
