Quinquennate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A quinquennat (from Latin quinque = "five" and annus = "year") is a period of five years in different contexts, for example:

  • the five-year term of office of the French President . In 2000 the term of office was shortened by a constitutional amendment based on a referendum from seven years to five years.
  • in the German Empire a compromise in the parliamentary approval of the military budget, which had to be given every five years since 1890 (cf. for the background Septennat (German Empire) ).
