X-ray image intensifier

An X-ray image intensifier ( RBV ) is an image converter for X-rays.

An RBV generates an image in real time , which is displayed on a monitor.

It consists of a dome-shaped input screen , three to five electrodes and the smaller output screen. There is a scintillator on the entrance screen , which generates light when the X-rays enter . Directly behind it is a photocathode , where electrons are released from the incoming light. The free electrons are accelerated towards the anode in the electric field between the cathode and anode . The electrodes create another electric field that can be used to control the path of the electrons (see electron optics ). In front of the exit screen there is again a scintillator that makes the electrons visible. A glowing, green, upside-down X-ray image is created. In most cases, optics and a CCD camera are attached to the output screen so that the image can be viewed on the screen .
