X-ray monument in Giessen

The X-ray monument is a memorial by the Berlin artist Erich Fritz Reuter in Giessen . It was built in 1962 in honor of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen . It consists of metal rods that penetrate a natural stone and thus stylizes the X-rays , Röntgen's greatest discovery.

The X-ray monument is located in the Giessener Südanlage in the theater park next to the city ​​theater .

Röntgen was a full professor at the University of Giessen from 1879 to 1888 . In addition to the memorial, there are other memories of Röntgen in Gießen:

  • The grave of Röntgen in the old cemetery ,
  • a memorial plaque on his former home (south section 17),
  • the award of the Röntgen Prize by the Justus Liebig University since 1960.
