R-26 (missile)
The R-26 ( Russian Р-26 ) was a Soviet ICBM from the Cold War era . The missile was mistakenly given the NATO code name SS-8 Sasin . The GRAY index was 8K66 .
Development work on the two-stage missile ran from 1960 to 1962, until the program was canceled in favor of the development of the R-36 ICBM. No R-26 has ever been operational. In November 1964 a dummy of the R-26 was shown at a military parade, which Western analysts gave the NATO code SS-8 Sasin . It was confused with the Soviet R-9 Desna missile .
