The RB 1 was a wet steam - tank locomotive , the 1901 Yard No. 2631 of Richard Hartmann Saxon Maschinenfabrik previously in Chemnitz was built.
The Norwegian railway company Rjukanbanen acquired the locomotive in 1908 from Valdresbane .
history
Rjukanbanen operated a 46 km long, in Norwegian parlance, semi-public route network, which was opened in 1909 and was built with high government subsidies. In addition to the Vestfjorddalsbanen (today's Rjukanbane ) and the railway ferry connection from Mæl via Tinnsjø to Tinnoset , this also included the Tinnosbane , which begins in Tinnoset . The latter was taken over on July 25, 1913 by the state railway company Tinnoset – Porsgrunnbanen , which was owned by Norges Statsbaner (NSB) and Norsk Hydros subsidiary Norsk Transportaktieselskab (RB), and since July 1, 1920 has been managed by the NSB.
The RB 1 locomotive was procured from Valdresbane in May 1908 for 8,024 kroner , where it was used as a construction locomotive.
After arriving at Rjukanbanen , it was also used as a construction locomotive. After the completion of the line, it was used in regular operations on Vestfjorddalsbane .
On September 25, 1928, the locomotive suffered a serious accident. During the descent on the route between Vemork and Rjukan (Vemorksporet, 55.6 ‰), the locomotive carried six cars. Since the braking performance was not sufficient, the train exceeded the permitted maximum speed and derailed.
The locomotive was not repaired and was scrapped in 1935.
