RD50

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

RD50 ( English radiation hard semiconductor devices for very high luminosity Collider ) is an international research network at CERN , the radiation hard semiconductor detectors for future experiments at accelerators with the highest luminosities explore and to develop. The focus is on the requirements resulting from the further development of the Large Hadron Collider . The association was founded in May 2002 and is currently managed by Michael Moll together with Gianluigi Casse.

In terms of organization, the RD50 is divided into four main research areas:

  • In the area of defect and material characterization , the microscopic properties of the detector materials used are examined before and after irradiation - mainly with pions , protons and neutrons . The area is coordinated by Mara Bruzzi .
  • The Detector Characterization division, administered by Eckhart Fretwurst , deals with the performance of various detector materials, some of which are deliberately enriched with defects.
  • In the area of New Structures , headed by Richard Bates , the focus is on novel approaches, such as semiconductor detectors based on 3-dimensional doping schemes or using new materials such as p-doped silicon as the starting material.
  • The fourth research focus is detector systems . Connections to electronics development and high energy physics are established here. Gregor Kramberger is responsible for the administration .
