Reep

The Reep (plural: the Reepe) describes a rope or a hawser in seafaring .

The production used to be done by the craft of the Reepschläger on the so-called Reeperbahnen by twisting thinner ropes or Reepe.

The main material used was (and is in some cases still today) hemp or flax , and quite earlier also common beach grass .

Today the cordage is mainly made by machine from synthetic fibers .
