RNA gene
In genetics, the term RNA gene refers to a gene whose expression ends without the production of a protein .
properties
RNA genes are e.g. B. rRNA , siRNA , microRNA or tRNA . In contrast, there are the genes of proteins that use RNA (more precisely mRNA ) only as an intermediate stage. The terms r and tRNA genes or RNA-coding genes are more unambiguous for this word meaning .
In virology , the term is used differently, since there is no viral DNA in RNA viruses and the RNA thus represents the genome . Correspondingly, in this case genes are sections of ribonucleic acid molecules. All living things, on the other hand, use DNA as a genetic material. The terms genes of RNA viruses or RNA virus genes are clearer for this meaning .
