ROTX

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ROTX is a share index for the Romanian stock exchange BVB . The acronym ROTX stands for Romanian Traded Index.

History of the index

The Vienna Stock Exchange , which is already heavily focussed on Eastern Europe, launched the leading index ROTX (Romanian Traded Index) in spring 2005 in cooperation with the Romanian stock exchange BVB (Bursa de Valori Bucuresti) . This not only focused the attention of investors more on the Eastern European country, but also created a standardized basis and benchmark for structured financial products with reference to the Romanian market for the first time.

Composition of the index

The ROTX can hardly be compared with other European indices. This already starts with the flexible number of members, which started out at six and has now increased to eleven. The inclusion criteria also differ significantly from the known standards. The ROTX Index Committee responsible for the selection, a cooperation between the two trading venues, takes into account not only market capitalization and stock exchange turnover, but also aspects such as sector affiliation, tradability or general market interest when making decisions . The ROTX also has special features with regard to the individual value weighting. Because there is no cap for the share of individual companies, the three largest companies weigh around 75 percent of the index weight. Right at the front is the Romanian gas and oil company Petrom , whose capitalization makes up around a quarter of the total ROTX value. Closely behind are the two financial institutions Banca Transilvania and BRD - Groupe Société Générale, each with more than 20 percent .

In addition to being calculated in euros, the index is also managed in US dollars and local currency . This is also done to make it comparable to other Romanian indices and to show historical performance.
