BRD - Groupe Société Générale SA is a Romanian bank with headquarters in Bucharest , which belongs to the French company Société Générale . The company is listed in the BET 10 share index.

The company was founded in 1923.

In 1999, the bank Banca Română pentru Dezvoltare (Romanian Development Bank) , which had belonged to the Romanian government up to this point, was acquired by Société Générale and renamed the BRD Groupe Société Générale after the acquisition .

In 2008 the bank had around 2.3 million customers and over 930 branches in Romania.
