The RSC Gera eV is a sports club for roller hockey founded in 1990 and based in Gera .

history

In 1938 they started playing roller hockey for the first time in Gera. A year later, the existing ice-skating department of ATG Gera was formed into an ice-skating and roller-skating department. In 1940 the first roller hockey game took place in the Geraer Hofwiesen against Gotha and ended 1: 1. In 1948 the Geraer roller hockey players became east zone champions. In 1950 the team won the GDR championship for the first time.

In 1954 international matches began against RAC Amical Antwerp. This was followed by tournaments and games against the leading teams from Belgium, Holland, France, Italy, Egypt, England, Switzerland and the then FRG. In 1956, the new Gera roller hockey stadium was inaugurated in front of 5000 spectators with a game against 1. FC Nürnberg.

The first official international match took place in Gera in 1959. There were also three Gera players in the selection for the GDR. In the following years, several players were appointed to the national teams of the GDR in the junior and senior division, including the well-known goalkeeper Erich Erlebach.

From 1965 Gera was the venue of the DRV Cup tournament. Between 1965 and 1988 the Volkswacht press festival cup tournament was won 12 times against national and international opponents.

In 1990 the RSC Gera e. V. founded and two players took part with the GDR national team at the European roller hockey championship in Lodi (Italy). In 1991 the men's team accepted an invitation to Antwerp. Invitations to Italy, England, the Netherlands and Switzerland followed.

The players also successfully took part in national games and tournaments against international teams.

For economic reasons, the Gera roller hockey players started the league game in the reunified Germany in the Regionalliga-Süd, where they won the championship several times.

In 1991 the idea was reborn to hold a separate tournament every year, the "International Gera Cup".

Between 1991 and 1994, the club's first men's team was promoted to the second national roller hockey league and increasingly settled in the top third of the table. From 2003 to 2005 she was runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga South three times in a row.

The women's team and the youth teams also won several runner-up and championship titles.

Venues

The roller hockey stadium was rebuilt as part of the Federal Garden Show 2007. The Panndorfhalle is the venue for league tournaments. The Gera-Tinz sports hall is purely a training hall. After the floods from 2013 to 2017, it was completely renovated.

Between 1949 and 1989, the Gera roller hockey players won over 100 championship medals in addition to numerous cup victories.
