Menhir La Dame Schone

The menhir La Dame Schone ( German  beautiful lady - also called La Pierre de Damechonne or Pierre de la Damechonne ) stands on the edge of the forest on the municipal boundary 6.3 km east of Saint-Mihiel near Bar-le-Duc in the Meuse department in France .

The 2.2 meter high Neolithic menhir bears the inscription: “With God for Fatherland 1914–1915”, which was engraved by German soldiers on the occasion of the conquest of Saint-Mihiel in World War I. Its average width is 1.5 m with an outgrowth of 0.4 m in the lower part of its east side. Its thickness is 0.77 m.

The menhir has been registered as a Monument historique since 1889 .
