RTV Regionalfernsehen Oberösterreich is a private broadcaster based in Garsten .

history

The entrepreneur and current managing director of RTV Regionalfernsehen GmbH, Christian Schott, who has been running a video production company since 1989, began delivering regional sports reports to local electrical retailers in 1992, which instead of test images or radio programs on exhibited television sets in the shop and in the shop windows pretended. A short time later, Schott began to distribute his program on cable television in Garsten and St. Ulrich, which was actually illegal at the time due to the broadcasting monopoly in Austria. It was not until September 1995 that the first (albeit clearly restricted) legal basis for the legal distribution of private regional television programs via the cable network was created with the "Cable Broadcasting Knowledge", until this distribution channel was finally completed with the 1997 Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Act was legalized. With the Private Television Act 2001, terrestrial broadcasting was also made possible.

All programs have also been available online since 2006. From 2009 onwards, RTV was broadcast terrestrially via DVB-T as well as via the Astra Digital satellite on a channel shared with Tirol TV, although satellite broadcasting was discontinued after a few years due to insufficient profitability. In January 2018, the gradual conversion of the broadcasting systems to HDTV began , while the production and distribution of the program via the online portal had been in HD for several years.

Also social media - especially Facebook - now plays an important role in the distribution of reports.

Sending scheme

RTV is currently broadcasting (as of January 2018) a program block with an average length of around 60 to 120 minutes, which is repeated in an endless loop and exchanged every Wednesday. The program block consists mainly of the "RTV Magazin", which is occasionally supplemented by other broadcast formats, for example "RTV then" (a review of programs from the past) or the "RTV Talk", and usually 2-3 advertising blocks. In addition, the news program “RTV Aktuell” is broadcast on workdays from Monday to Friday and is updated at 6:00 p.m.

While RTV Aktuell reports in the format of a news program with short reports on current topics mainly from the area of chronicle, the RTV Magazin consists of reports with an average length of 5 minutes, whereby the content covers all subject areas related to the region without specific thematic priorities extends. Often there are reports on culture, sport, politics, economy, education as well as festivals and events in the region.
