As head of the World Bank's climate program in the run-up to the Paris Agreement , she developed strategies for providing funding to developing countries that wanted to counteract climate change but did not have the necessary funds. In the run-up to the UN climate summit in September 2019, she played an influential role that led the UN Secretary-General to demand that states and companies must make new commitments in order to accelerate the energy transition. She founded a non-profit organization, Sustainable Energy for All, which aims to supply underdeveloped regions with energy and at the same time helps them move away from fossil fuels.

The US American Time magazine listed her in the article “Meet 15 Women Leading the Fight Against Climate Change” in 2019 as one of 15 women who lead the fight against climate change.
