Radio Habana Cuba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radio Habana Cuba (RHC) is the official international radio station of Cuba .

history

The program began broadcasting in 1961 , two years after the Cuban revolution . Due to its geographical proximity to the USA , the station played an important role in socialist propaganda from the start. During the Cold War, RHC broadcast propaganda from North Vietnam , North Korea and the Soviet Union in addition to the normal program .

In the 1960s, RHC tried to incite the black population to protest against their discrimination with the program Radio Free Dixie . In the 1980s, the United States responded to this with Radio Martí , an anti-Castro radio broadcast from the United States to Cuba.

present

RHC and Radio Rebelde are currently broadcasting news from Cuba, Cuban music , sports programs and, most importantly, political commentary reflecting the point of view of the Cuban government under President Raúl Castro . Most of the broadcasting time is broadcast in Spanish, with RHC broadcasting one program hour per day in English. In Europe, RHC can be received for two hours a day.

RHC broadcasts in nine languages in total: Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, Criole haitiano, Quechua, Guarani, Arabic, Esperanto.
