Radio Resource Control

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Radio Resource Control Protocol ( RRC ) is a protocol for controlling the radio resources in UMTS . RRC is located on the third layer and takes care of the signaling between the user equipment (UE) and the UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN).

The functions of the RRC protocol include establishing and clearing connections as well as operating and monitoring the connection between the components mentioned. In order to support a required quality of service (QoS), several radio connections can be set up to a subscriber device at the same time. In addition, the RRC protocol offers paging , broadcast and messages between UTRAN and subscriber device, a control of the transmission performance and the encryption.
