Manuel Ruedi (born May 12, 1962 in La Chaux-de-Fonds ) is a Swiss zoologist . His research focus is mammalogy .

Life

The cryptic mouse- eared mouse ( Myotis crypticus ) was described by Ruedi and his colleagues in 2019.

Manuel Ruedi is the son of Emile and Luciana Ruedi nee Peregrina. In 1986 Ruedi obtained a degree in natural sciences from the University of Lausanne . In 1988 he graduated with a Master of Science degree in biology. In 1994 he was under the direction of Peter Vogel with the dissertation et Zoogeography taxonomy of Crocidurinés d'Asie du Sud-Est (Insectivora, Mammalia) for Ph.D. PhD in zoology from the University of Lausanne. From 1995 to 1996 he completed a postdoctoral phase as a fellow under the direction of James L. Patton at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1997 he received a research grant from the Swiss government.

In 1999 he joined the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de la Ville de Genève , where he has been curator for mammals and birds since 2001.

Ruedi's research interests focus on phylogenetic and biogeographical reconstructions based on molecular data. He also developed several research programs on the population genetic structure and systematics of bats.

Ruedi is co Erstbeschreiber from two shrew species and several species of bats, including Crocidura hutanis , Crocidura musseri , coleura kibomalandy , aelleni Miniopterus , Murina jaintiana , Murina pluvialis , Myotis secundus , Myotis soror , Tylonycteris tonkinensis , Cassistrellus yokdonensis , Myotis crypticus and Myotis zenatius . In 2010 he was part of a team of scientists who proposed the new family Cistugidae for two bat species in the genus Cistugo . In 2012 he was part of the first descriptor team for the genus Paremballonura .

In 2018, alongside Connor Burgin , Rudolf Haslauer , Kai He , Arlo Hinckley , Stefan Hintsche , Rainer Hutterer , Paulina D. Jenkins , Masaharu Motokawa , Boris Iljitsch Sheftel and Neal Woodman , Ruedi wrote the chapter on shrews (Soricidae) in the eighth volume of Handbook of the Mammals of the World .

Ruedi has been married since 1990. He has a son and a daughter.
