Rafroball

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rafroball is a ball sport with a mixture of handball , soccer and basketball rules .

Style of play

Rafroball was developed for highly heterogeneous disabled sports groups. Two teams, each with a goalkeeper and four field players, try to play the ball (soft handball) into the opposing goal . Four substitutes are allowed per team. The game is played on the basketball court, whereby the size of the goal is adapted to the movement possibilities of the goalkeeper. The player in possession of the ball is not allowed to move. Wheelchair users with severe disabilities can be pushed by an assistant who is also allowed to help with receiving the ball. In front of the goal there is a zone ( goalkeeper zone ) that neither the defenders nor the attackers can enter or drive. The players must not remain in possession of the ball for more than 10 seconds. The winner is whoever scores the most goals.

history

The word Rafroball comes from a mixture of the family names of the three inventors of the game: Thierry Rapillard, Lionel and Jonas Frossard and Prince Ballstraz. After a few years of playing experience and two tournaments (1996 to 1997), the first official regulations were drawn up in 1999 and the second in 2001. The last revision of the regulations was made in 2004.
