Raghib Harb

Raghib Harb (* 1952 ; † February 16, 1984 ; also known under the English spelling Ragheb Harb ) was a clergyman in the southern Lebanese village of Jibshit and co-founder of the Lebanese Islamist-Shiite organization Hezbollah .

Raghib Harb became known in the early 1980s when he ran underground cells for resistance fighters. In March 1983 he was arrested by Israel and taken to the Ansar detention center, but released after protests by his supporters. A year later he was "shot on behalf of Israel" (Tagesspiegel).
