Rai San'yō

Rai San'yō

Rai San'yō ( Japanese 頼 山陽 ; * January 21, 1780 ; † October 16, 1832 ) was a Japanese historian and poet.

The emperor loyal and patriotically minded San'yō, son of the historian Rai Shunsui , portrayed in his work Nihon Gaishi ( 日本 „ ," Unofficial History of Japan ") the rise and fall of the Japanese shoguns and their ministers who, in his opinion, illegally hold power usurped in Japan. Nihon Seiki ( 日本 政 記 , "Political History of Japan") is a story of the Japanese Empire and its decline. San'yō was also considered a master of Chinese poetry ( kanshi ).
