Rainer Mattes

Rainer Mattes (* 1937 in Stuttgart ) is a German chemist who is a professor at the Institute for Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Münster .

Mattes received his doctorate in 1963 under Josef Goubeau at the University of Stuttgart and was a post-doctoral student at Harvard University in 1965/66 under Eugene G. Rochow . In 1970 he completed his habilitation in Münster and became a professor there in 1971. From 1990 to 2001 he was Vice Rector of the University. He turned down a call to Stuttgart-Hohenheim.

In 1981 he was visiting professor at the University of Sydney .

He deals with fluorine complexes, polyoxometalates and coordination compounds (synthesis, development and chemistry of macrocyclic ligands and their transition metal complexes).
